Structured lighting is the process of calculating the distance by analyzing the reflected dot pattern. The way is when it hits it allows the vision system to calculate depth and surface information for objects in the scene, just like those used in structured light 3D scanners. Invisible or imperceptible structured light uses structured light without interfering with other computer vision tasks where the projected patterns can be confusing.

Stereo vision is the extraction of 3D information from digital images, such as those obtained with CCD cameras. By comparing information about a scene from viewpoints, 3D information can be extracted by examining the relative positions of objects in the panels. This is similar to the biological process of stereopsis.
